If we can’t boast about appearing younger, what can we boast about?
As the NBA season jumps into action in the coming weeks, all eyes will be on LeBron James – but some will be watching more than his skills on the court as he returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In recent weeks, photos of James’ hairline have caused a stir online. The receding that had been apparent during his time in Miami seemed to have reversed in mid-September. He sported a nicely defined and natural-looking temporal peak with considerable volume.
Then, as reporters examined photos of the first days of practice, it appeared that James’ hairline was back to what it looked like previously. This prompted Nick Schwartz of USA Today to write the article, “LeBron James' hair has mysteriously disappeared,” and Fox Sports posted the story, “With LeBron James, it's hair today, gone tomorrow.”

The stigma that once was associated with reversing the effects of male pattern baldness has greatly diminished. As is the case with other cosmetic surgery procedures, many people are proud to show off the work they’ve had done on their hairline.
After all, if we can’t boast about appearing younger, what can we boast about?
John Hendrickson of Esquire, author of the article, "The Best Way to Deal with Your Receding Hairline,” poses the question, “Did LeBron James just magically fix his receding hairline?” He goes on to answer his own question by writing, “Who knows. More important: Who cares?”
Mike Foss writes in USA Today, “…you know what? LeBron looks great. Do your thing, LeBron.”
This is the right attitude. Why should anyone care whether or not a celebrity – or an acquaintance or co-worker for that matter – chooses to have a hair transplant? If someone feels like they could use a confidence boost and is ready for a major change, it isn’t appropriate to criticize or otherwise make fun, is it? People who pursue hair restoration should be encouraged if it makes them feel better about themselves.
After a hair restoration procedure, patients feel better about themselves in many ways -- and it stretches far beyond just how they look or how their hair looks. Patients who have a hair transplant tell us that the procedure has a profound impact on how they feel about themselves -- their whole selves.
And that’s something we can all celebrate.
